The Delta State Government approved the recruitment of 2,000 teachers through the Post Primary Education Board and the State Universal Basic Education Board, and the application window for that exercise ran from 31 January to midnight on 13 February 2026 at the state portal. Applications were free. That exercise was real, it was officially announced, and its window has since closed.
The reason people keep asking whether it’s real is that teacher recruitment claims circulate in Nigeria almost continuously, whether or not any board is actually hiring. So rather than answering for one particular week, here’s how to check the status yourself at any point, and what a genuine Delta recruitment exercise looks like when one is running.
There is only one portal, and everything else is a copy
Delta State teacher applications are submitted through the Ministry of Secondary Education portal at jobs.deltastatemobse.net. That’s it. There’s no alternative registration site, no WhatsApp registration, no agent portal, and no downloadable form circulating on Telegram that substitutes for it.
When the portal is genuinely open, you create an account with your mobile number and email address, and your user ID and password are sent to both. Those details need to be accurate and reachable, because every subsequent stage of the process runs through them. If a site asks you to register somewhere other than the official portal, you’re not applying for anything.
The government’s own warning is the clearest test you have
When Delta announced the 2,000 teacher recruitment, the state said explicitly that no payment is required at any stage of the process, and advised applicants to watch official government platforms so they don’t fall victim to fraudsters. That single sentence resolves most questions before they arise.
Anyone asking you for money in connection with a Delta teaching job is defrauding you, whatever they call the fee and however plausible they sound. There’s no form fee, no screening fee, no shortlisting fee, no medical fee and no fee for a guaranteed slot. The same applies to anyone offering to submit your application on your behalf for a charge, since the portal is free and takes you a few minutes.
What happens elsewhere is worth knowing too, because the pattern repeats across states. In Ekiti, the SUBEB Executive Chairman had to issue a public statement confirming the Board was not recruiting and had never advertised any teacher vacancies, describing the claims spreading on social media as fake and created by fraudsters. Boards do speak up when their name is being used, so a quick check of what the board itself has said tells you a lot.
How to check the status in about five minutes
Open jobs.deltastatemobse.net directly in your browser rather than through a link somebody sent you. If a recruitment is live, the portal will say so and there’ll be an application button. If nothing is running, the portal won’t invite you to register.
Then check deltastate.gov.ng for an official announcement, and look at what Delta newspapers and established national outlets are reporting. A genuine intake of two thousand teachers is a significant political event in a state with over 60,000 civil servants, and it gets covered properly by the press rather than appearing only on recruitment blogs. If you can’t find a single mainstream report and the portal itself is quiet, treat the claim as unconfirmed no matter how many sites repeat it.
One detail worth noticing when you’re reading. Some sites publish the same “portal is now open” wording for Delta, Enugu, Rivers, Kwara, Lagos and Edo simultaneously. Recruitment exercises in six different states don’t open in the same week, so identical claims across all of them are a signal about the source rather than about the recruitment.
What the real process actually involves
A genuine Delta teacher recruitment is handled through the Post Primary Education Board for secondary schools and SUBEB for primary and basic education. Applicants need relevant academic qualifications, which means an NCE, a B.Ed or an equivalent teaching certification. The state has said priority goes to qualified indigenes while keeping selection merit based, which is one reason your certificate of state of origin matters as much as your degree.
Selection runs through screening, computer based testing and interviews rather than a single application form. That’s a multi stage process over weeks, and it means nobody can promise you a place in advance. Anyone claiming they can bypass the CBT or arrange a slot is describing something that doesn’t exist in the published process.
Another round is coming, but it hasn’t been advertised yet
The Delta State Executive Council recently considered the shortage of teachers in public secondary schools, particularly in science subjects, and directed the Ministry of Secondary Education to prepare a memo indicating how many teachers are needed. The Council approved additional employment in principle to close that gap.
Approved in principle isn’t the same as open for applications. What it means practically is that if you hold an NCE or a B.Ed, particularly in chemistry, physics, biology or mathematics, it’s worth having your documents scanned and ready now rather than waiting for the announcement. Windows like the January one ran for two weeks, and two weeks isn’t long to chase a certificate of state of origin from Ozoro or Oleh alongside everything else.
